City advises of planned water supply disruption to the Blue Downs and Kuils River areas

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be performing a test-shutdown of the water supply to the Blue Downs and Kuils River areas on Saturday, 22 May 2021 from 20:00 until midnight.  The City needs to ensure that this can be done successfully, in preparation for the work to connect to the newly constructed 100 meter pipeline to the1500mm Blackheath bulk water main.  The final connection will be made on Friday, 28 May 2021, and will affect the water supply from 14:00 until Monday, 31 May 2021 at 14:00. The purpose of this work is to realign the water supply infrastructure, so that Belhar Road in Highbury can be widened to help reduce traffic congestion in the area.

Areas of Dennemere, Austinville, Blackheath Industrial, Happy Valley, Summerville, Hagley, Saxenburg, Ou Nooiensfontein, Nuwe Nooiensfontein, Dannarand, Sarepta, Kalkfontein, Highbury, Voelvlei, Mabille Park and Wesbank will be affected by the shutdown.

Residents can expect a reduction in the water pressure or the possible disruption to their water supply during both the test shutdown and the final connection next week. A water tanker will be on standby in the area to provide water, where required, for domestic use during this period. The test will also help determine which areas will experience the greatest disruption, to better target relief efforts next weekend.

Residents are advised to store water in clean, sealed containers in advance and to ensure that their taps are left in the closed position while works are underway to prevent any water loss and/or water damage when the supply is restored.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused, however, this maintenance will help reduce and prevent future water wastage.
